Intaglio, Cyanotype
13" x 16"
2020
This piece is from a series depicting abandoned buildings across the US and experimenting with printing intaglio prints over cyanotypes. The cyanotype layer shows structural, pre-abandonment imagery and the intaglio shows post-abandonment imagery. The degradation of buildings often symbolize broader changes and period transitions in US history. Belle Grove was a plantation built in 1957 in Iberville Parish, Louisiana. The mansion began to decay after the Civil War. Restoration was impossible due to the Great Depression and Belle Grove was abandoned in the 1920s. A leaky roof and a fire in 1952 added to the degradation and Belle Grove was eventually bulldozed in 1958.
Prints may vary slightly from image due to this artwork being hand-printed.
