Intaglio, Cyanotype
13" x 16"
2020
This piece is from a series depicting abandoned buildings across the US and experimenting with printing intaglio prints over cyanotypes. The cyanotype layer shows structural, pre-abandonment imagery and the intaglio shows post-abandonment imagery. The degradation of buildings often symbolize broader changes and period transitions in US history. Halcyon Hall was built in 1893 in Millbrook, New York. The building was originally a hotel but became a part of Bennett College. Halcyon Hall was abandoned in 1978 after the school’s bankruptcy. The building suffered major water damage, and the portions of the roof have collapsed allowing for trees and plant life to grow out of it. Halcyon Hall began to be demolished in 2021.
Prints may vary slightly from image due to this artwork being hand-printed.
